Dec 2021 – Dec 2024 Reconstruction and Energy Efficiency Improvement of the Secondary School of Gargar Village and Piloting Renovations in Drinking Water Supply System
In Gargar Village, Lori region, the project lead by the Urban Foundation in partnership with Armenia Energy Agency aimed to improve the living standards of the community’s standard of living. The initiative focused on some critical areas: ensuring access to quality drinking water, decent education and introducing waste sorting practices.

The program has developed engineering design for the entire drinking water network and ensured partial construction of the main pipeline. Residents, village school, medical and sports centers, and the municipal building benefited from the renovated drinking water pipeline.
Simultaneously, to improve educational facilities, the project designed and constructed a second floor addition to the local school, creating four new classrooms equipped with energy-efficient windows. Another step to energy efficiency of the school building was the installation of a rooftop solar PV system. The project helped procure plastic waste separation garbage bins installed at public facilities and provided environmental education for the school staff, schoolchildren and the residents.
Beneficiaries: Ultimately, approximately 189 schoolchildren, 35 school staff members, 4 medical personnel, 30 sport hall attendees, and 1492 residents (421 households) directly benefited from this project due to generous support by the Embassy of Japan, Coca Cola Foundation and Izmirlian Foundation
